This concert presents you the magical chemicals when Western and Eastern classical music converge on the same stage. ⑵.Artist ProfileSHEN Yili (Kunqu Opera Actress)Shen Yili graduated from the Shanghai Theatre Academy as a drama performance major and has played leading roles in a great number of famous Kunqu operas including Peony Pavilion, Palace of Eternal Youth and so on. Shen also actively participated in performances and lectures in Britain, France, America, Taiwan and Hong Kong to promote the development of Kunqu Opera.QIAN Yin (Flute)Qian Yin graduated from Shanghai Theatre Academy specializing in Kunqu Opera. Qian is National First Grade Instrumentalist, council member in Shanghai Dramatists Association, member in Shanghai Musicians Association and chief flute in Shanghai Kunqu Opera Group.NING Feng (Violinist)Prize-winning violinist Ning Feng is one of the most exciting of the younger generation of top-level players. Ning was born in China and studied playing the violin at the age of four. He then learned from violin masters Hu Weimin and later, Antje Weithaas. He was the winner of Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2001 and Paganini International Violin Competition in 2006. He now lives in Berlin, a base for his career performing concertos and recitals all around the world (Such as the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra).CHANG Yu-Fen (Composer)CHANG Yu-Fen studied and obtained her diplôme supérieur from Brussels Royal Conservatory. She performs all over Europe, Russia included. In Belgium, her country of residence, she has performed in all the major concert-halls and festivals: Klara Festival, Midis-Minimes, Ars Musica, BOZAR (recitals and with NOB-ONB), Flagey, Handelsbeurs, Brussels Royal Conservatory and so on. She combined Ustvolskaya with Mozart for a concert with The Ural Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dmitri Liss. From 2011, she was invited to perform in Brazil and Mexico. Patrick DE CLERCK (Curator)Patrick de Clerck directed the biggest music festivals and concert series in Belgium (Klara Festival, European Gala Concerts, Ars Musica). He was also director of Worldwide Music Festival in Europe and Escapades, a government-funded music program in Belgium. De Clerck also did classical music and was creative director of Flanders Festival Brussels and general director of Ars Musica. He moved to MariinskyTheatrefor the New Horizons Festival, and founded Music Projects For Brussels.

Across the Silk Road(1)SynopsisBased on stories of the Silk Road and the paintings of the MoGau caves, Rituals is a performance that explores the connections between traditions: the traditions of contemporary music and electronics with traditional classical Chinese and classical western music. The mixing of modern technology and Taoist and Buddhist rituals and explores improvisation and carefully composed works of musical skill and musical storytelling. The effect is a layering of different styles which trade ideas and musical energy across a Silk Road that is both modern and ancient. East and West and creates a performance like a soundtrack without a film. (2)Artist ProfileDavid Shea (Composer)New York and now Melbourne based composer David Shea is closely associated with the New York Downtown experimental music scene. Shea is apt to move from probing electro-acoustics to Chinese traditional music, American pop, Latin jazz, and exotica in the space of a single piece. A practicing Buddhist, Sheas odd fusion of East and West (particularly on albums such as Hsi-Yu Chi and Tower of Mirrors) is partly a function of the expressive role in Eastern cultures. Sheas facility for fusing not only the spiritual but also the pop cultural elements of Eastern cultures (Hong Kong cinema, allegorical Chinese theater, etc.) is accomplished and critically renowned.Shea has also found a growing audience in the more experimental strains of the post-industrial/post-rave ambient and electronic music set. Shea also continues to bridge gaps separating his various audiences by performing at events and contributing to projects which to engage both in equal measure. Wang MengWang Meng is a versatile musician, teacher and composer. She graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne with a BA (Hons) in Music (2006). In 2008, she was awarded the Hull Sinfoniettas Young International artist of the year. Meng performed widely around the world. In 2008 and 2009 she toured Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and France. She also performed in many significant festivals, shows and venues in London, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Bristol, Manchester and many other cities in the UK. Meng had been very active in Australia since 2011, She collaborated with Multicultural Arts Victoria on Various Projects including performing at: The Melbourne Town Hall and etc. She is now collaborating with an established American composer/musician David Shea on a commissioned piece by Adelaide Festival 2016. And she is also working on the recording with accomplished Melbourne based musician Cy Gorman and pianist Brenna Wee on various projects.

Story-telling Theatre: SnowyNight ⑴SynopsisA dying man and a donkey give their last show on the stage of this desolate world… On a snowy New Year eve, Li, a housekeeperofa landlord, goes to collect rent from a village but fails to receive anything from tenants. He refuses to stay with Bao, one of tenants, instead choosing to return with his donkey, braving a snowstorm. On his way home, he falls into deep thought and ultimately despair. He finally dies of cold at the door of an abandoned house. Snowy Night, created in 1931, is one of Duanmu Hongliangs best short novels. This story of amazing language and imagination will be staged by Ruth Kanner, the Israeli stage director specializing in adapting literary and documentary texts to the stage, using a variety of innovative story-telling theatre and movement techniques. ⑵Artist ProfileRuth Kanner (Director)Ruth Kanner has been the creator of experimental theatre productions since the early 80s. Currently she is an Associate Professor at the Department of Theater Arts of Tel Aviv University, Israel, and leads Ruth Kanner Theatre Group, associated with the Bat Sheva Dance Company, Tel Aviv. Ruth Kanner Theatre group is an experimental and unique theater team, specializing in adapting literary and documentary texts to the stage, using a variety of innovative story-telling theater and movement techniques. Along the productions created by kanner with her group, kanner is a guest director of Theater X-Cai, Tokyo, Japan. Kanner also presents lectures and workshops in Israel and Worldwide.Ren Ming Young (Playwright)Ren Ming Young (born 1982) is a Chinese writer, theatre director, filmmaker and singer-songwriter. His highly stylized theatre productions like Your Accent, The Tempest in the East China Sea, The Story of Ni Huanzhi, At This Time Next Year, Le You Yuan and Last Night in Shuangyong Road, made him a distinctive avant-garde theatre artist in China.

The Nightingale and the Rose(1) SynopsisBased on British writer Oscar Wildes short story The Nightingale and the Rose, this dance theatre seeks to deliver the essence of Wildes imagination. In the story, a young man vocalizes his despair for there are no roses in his garden for the girl he loves, which is overheard by a nightingale, a creation associated with love, innocence and romance. The nightingale, so much touched by the beauty and soul of the student, decides to relieve his pain by finding him the red rose. The nightingale sings all night under the moon and pierces its own heart with the roses thorn, a sacrifice that makes the red rose grow and bloom. Unfortunately, the rose fails to win the heart of the materialistic girl who chooses jewel over flower.By integrating classical elements and modern values, Wang Yuanyuan interprets the story in her beautiful modern ballet, infusing this Western classical narrative with Eastern aesthetics. Rashamon⑴ SynopsisIn honor of the 50th anniversary of our troupe, and great efforts of renowned artists in Taiwan at that time, we decided to bring Rashamon back to life.The male character is played by the famous acrobatic-fighting actor Dai -LiWu; the female, our rising star Lin TingYu, and the robber is performed by Yang YuJing, the first prize winner of the painted-face role competition in our troupe.From different backgrounds and position, the fact can be explained and illustrated in different ways. The point is not what is true, but the existence of difference. From words of the separate parts, you can feel that they are different from each other, and their mindsets change according to the environment. ⑵ Artist ProfileThe troupe of National Taiwan College of Performing ArtsThe troupe of National Taiwan College of Performing Arts, founded in 1963, is the first troupe subordinated to the traditional drama studies, and also the troupe of the longest history in Taiwan up to now. The troupe is mainly consisted of excellent graduates and all fields of talents. For years, we have put on many widely-loved dramas, which indicates our great advantage in this field. Tradition and innovation do not contradict. We advance with the times, and we will continue to build up our strength in the future, in endeavor to inherit and promote our traditional arts. We hope that Peking opera can be heard everywhere and maintain its vitality for good. The writer: Ryūnosuke AkutagawaRyunosuke Akutagawa was a Japanese writer active in the Taisho period in Japan. He was especially good at writing short stories. In his short career, he wrote more than 150 short stories. Despite of the short para, his works are famous for novel idea and plots. He dedicated to uncover the society defect, however, he make descriptions instead of comments. The readers can feel the ugliness behind the text. His magnum opuses are Aphorisms by a pygmy, Kappa, and Rashamon. Art director: Tsai Hsin-HsinTsai served as executive secretary of the GuoGuang Opera Company, Board Director of Taipei Modern Opera and TheaterAssociation, National Chengchi University. Tsai has focused on academic researches of traditional operas and observing the modern operas. She has been traveling between China and Taiwan for academic exchange and collecting elements from folk music, and she has hosted many traditional opera folk music research plans recently and directed arts and culture communication among China, Taiwan, and other countries. She has combined academic theory with experience on the stage and devoted in recording, saving, and promoting traditional theatre and folk arts. Producer: Zhang XuNan, Lecturer of Taipei College of Performing Arts. Graduated from Chinese Culture University, Zhang got his MA from Oklahoma City University. Her works include:《Lanling Wang》,《The butterfly lovers》. Modeling: Ye JinTian Ye is a famous artist who is good at costume, visual arts, cinema, contemporary arts creation. Ye first publicized his neo-orientalism getting the world familiar with the eastern cultural and artistic beauty. He held a costume show called 《The face of time》in Palace Museum in Taipei. Also, he express his attitude towards eastern aesthetics in France and Spain. He is in charge of the costume design during the flag delivery ceremony between Athens and China. Invited by the Kennedy Center in 2005, a show called "Chinese red" was held. In his sample reels are many famous works, such as 《uncertain time》,《ROUGEL′ART DE TIM YIP》. In the meantime, he has worked as an art director or costume designer in 《The banquet》,《Crouching tiger, hidden dragon》,《Red cliff》,《Spring in a small town》.
